CNDS (Compagnia Nazionale di Danza Storica) has been promoting Scottish Country Dances since 1989 through the good offices of its President Nino Graziano Luca.
Starting from the 2019 - 2020 Season, our Association has set out to further boost the development of such lively dances by establishing the CNDS SCOTTISH DANCE Department, which contributes to the promotion of Scottish Country Dances for the entertainment of present and future generations.
The CNDS SCOTTISH DANCE Department organizes its courses following the system of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, which is based on the studying and teaching methods developed by the Society’s co-founders Mrs. Milligan and Mrs. Stewart in the early 20th century. A system that has been kept alive and further developed with merit by many Scottish R.S.C.D.S. masters.
If we look at the history of Contredanse over time and the tradition of English country dance and French contredanse in the 17th and 18th centuries, it appears evident that today the best system is the Scottish system for it combines technical and artistic values with the purpose of promoting a pleasurable social activity.
Scottish Country Dances are ideal for having fun, making friends and keeping fit. You will not need special footwear (comfortable flats are fine) and you will not need to bring a partner (Scottish Country Dances require you to dance with different partners).
The CNDS SCOTTISH DANCE Department plans to organize several events at the end of the Courses during which you will not be asked to wear a kilt (even if you can or want to do so). You will just have to wear a Tartan detail, evocative of the unique textile design of the Scottish Highlands.
So why not try it? Whatever your age or ability, you'll soon feel part of CNDS SCOTTISH.
