Historical Dance Courses

The Compagnia Nazionale di Danza Storica offers Historical Dance Courses that are designed to entertain and give an opportunity to spend some happy time together with a view to enjoying a shared passion with a small cohesive community while promoting forms of psycho-physical well-being. This has always been the number 1 priority of our traditional 19th century Dance Courses, that feature a variety of very entertaining dances. They are one-year courses with weekly classes and are arranged by beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.

  • LEVEL ONE or BEGINNERS. Students are tutored in the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills required to perform social dances - Quadrilles, Contredanses, Waltzes, Polkas, Polonaises, Marches, Galops –. They are also introduced to fashion, customs, habits and etiquette of the Romantic period.
  • LEVEL 2 or INTERMEDIATE. Students focus on acquiring a more proper style in executing what they learnt at Level 1. To do so, they study and perform dances from famous films and namely Mazurkas and Polkas, as well as other dances from period masterpieces such as The Leopard, War and Peace, Sissi, Gone with the Wind, and TV dramas adapted from Jane Austin’s novels.
  • LEVEL 3 or ADVANCED. Students engage in expanding their dance repertoire, perfecting posture and execution of choreographies and developing a feel for music and stage. To this purpose they engage in a more complex and in-depth study of the dances they learnt in the previous two levels. For the 2020-2021 academic season, the Advanced level will be split into ADVANCED 1 and ADVANCED 2. The latter will cater to students who have many years of experience at the advanced level, show good technical skills and have a knowledge of a large number of dances.
